Greed and Temptation
Being
tempted and greed leads to misfortune. Let’s see how.
Once, a poor man was worshipping
the God by chanting prayer throughout the day. The God became pleased with the
sincere prayer of the poor man appeared before him and asked him about his
desire. The poor man asked the God to bestow gold coins. God said OK and asked
him how would he carry the collect the gold coins. The poor man told that he would
collect the gold coins in a bag. The God, before bestowing gold coins to the
poor man told him that he will bestow gold coins until the poor man says
“enough”, but on one condition that even a single gold coin shouldn’t fall on
the ground else it would turn into ash.
The poor man accepted the condition and the God immediately started
bestowing gold coins in to his bag. The bag started to fill gradually, but the poor
man couldn’t control his greed for getting more and more gold coins, Hence with
the weight of the gold coins the bag began to shred. The poor man being unaware
of this continued to fetch gold coins without saying “enough”.
As a result of the poor man’s
temptation and greed the bag got shredded and hence the bag tore open and the
all the gold coins fell on the ground and turned into ash. The poor man’s temptation and greed lead to
his downfall!
So, to remain happy in life we should avoid greed
and temptation and must develop an attitude of contentment.
